What is Kambo
and how can Kambo help me?
Kambo is a traditional medicine used by many of the tribes of the Amazon rainforest. A poison, Kambo is collected from the Phyllomedusa Bicolor frog. Like all of nature, the Kambo frog is revered by the tribes so it is returned to the jungle unharmed after the collection.
When we work with Kambo we are reminded of the common bonds between all life, Kambo is a master of alchemy, often systematically removing our blocks to Spirit. Kambo does this by purifying our personal distortions, impurities found on all five layers of our existence thus not only does Kambo clean our body, it works on the emotional, causal and spiritual levels of our being.
Kambo promotes the understanding of our feelings; by bringing up that which we have suppressed and since long forgotten. By removing these impurities, the reminants of unprocessed and unhealthy feelings from the past, we reveal layer by layer our authentic-self. Kambo clears the path ahead, promoting a deeper understanding of ourselves and everything around us. The clearer we become, the more resonant we get and the more we synchronize with ‘what is’. In this ‘enlightened’ state, happiness and joy are easy, because they are after all your natural state; that which you truly are.
There are many paths of course to uncover understanding; meditation, plant teachers or even a Guru, but Kambo is one of the fastest and most accessible ways of making progress fast. Combining Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda and Kambo has been a revelation for me personally and the focus of my Kambo offerings are shifting to reflect that. By taking a holistic approach to the cleansing of mind, body and spirit, with Kambo as an integral part of our practice, our growth is strongly potentiated.
Kambo’s medicine washes away any negative physical and mental energies which deny us a balanced and peaceful life. When we have allowed emotional toxins to thwart our outlook on life, or when we feel swamped, it is surely time for Kambo. Many have described their Kambo experiences as a genuine rebirth, like walking through a portal after which they were never the same again. Post Kambo some people have realized their unrealized dreams and found ways to fulfill their heart’s desires. Kambo helped them to reignite their courage and to acknowledge themselves on a deeper level, letting go of that which was holding them back and allowing them to embrace their highest happiness.
Whether Kambo has you purging, sweating, shaking, crying or in a state of bliss, you can be sure that change is in progress. Over the years I’ve witnessed a vast array of reactions during Kambo, the funniest being “why the hell did I do this”, which after an hour always changes to “that was great, when can I do it again?” After thousands of applications with people of all ages and states of health, Kambo has never failed to deliver a deeply transformative experience.
The frog is a Universal symbol of the embracing of personal power. It reminds us not to become bogged down with day-to-day living. Give the frog and Kambo the support and energy needed to reclaim your true nature and allow yourselves to simply shine.
Thank you for your magic & guidance, it helped us to get through our Kambo journey confidently and safely.
It was a pleasure to be around great company of people resonating on a similar frequency. We definitely had an invaluable spiritual experience. <more>
I received an unbelievable level of mental clarity coupled with a full-body calmness. Ah, this is what it feels like to live without being trapped in your own head! My default mode of anger, frustration, and nervousness had vanished. <more>
Kambo is the best choice I have ever made. It is the most amazing and spiritually awakening process a human can do. If you are searching to speed your evolution and carry a deeper connection to nature and everyone in your life then you have found your next process. <more>
Kambo Step by Step
These steps are known as a Kambo ceremony
Kambo is a traditional medicine used by many of the tribes in the northwestern part of the Amazon rainforest. A waxy poison, it is collected from the back and sides of the Giant Monkey Tree Frog or Phyllomedusa Bicolor
The Kambo is collected from the frog without hurting it and placed on small wooden paddles where it is allowed to dry. Before use the dried kambo is reconstituted with saliva or water so that it can be worked into small globules or dots
Prior to application, the Kambo is formed into the required number of dots. The amount of kambo will be determined by your experience and health. The initial session always involves a strict safety protocol to test your reaction to a tiny amount of kambo
A thin piece of vine is heated up and the burn points are placed on the arm or leg, producing an instant opening on the skin. It is a tribal tradition for men to receive their Kambo on their arms or chest while women receive on the lower leg.
The kambo points are then applied to these openings and water is applied to help the process of absorption. Prior to receiving the kambo it is traditional to drink a large amount of water to balance the alchemical ‘fire’ energy of Kambo.
Each time kambo is taken the experience is different, there is no real familiarity even with repeated use; often participants report that the kambo scans his or her body and then seems to focus the healing in areas where it’s most needed.
The History of Kambo
and how Kambo was discovered
Deep in the Amazon there lives a tribe of indigenous people called the Kaxinawá. They have a legend and it refers to the discovery of Kambo. The story goes that many people in the village had fallen ill and that the tribes medicine man Kampu had tried all his usual jungle medicines but to no avail. In desperation Kampu went into the jungle and sat in isolation drinking Ayahuasca, the master teacher plant, and was shown visions that taught him about the Kambo medicine.
Kampu was told to find one particular frog from the hundreds of frog species native to the Amazon. He was shown how to call to the frog, collect the milky secretion from the frog’s poison glands and how to apply Kambo to the human body.
After the ceremony, Kampu returned to the village where he used his newfound knowledge to heal the tribe with this new and potent Kambo medicine. The name Kambo comes from this incredible shaman Kampu and it’s through the use of Kambo that his spirit lives on.
Like Kampu, when we trust in the Divine healing of nature we avoid Pragyapradh (from Ayurveda) or ‘mistake of the intellect’. In pragyapradh we choose to turn our backs on the healing intelligence of nature, thinking that we know better. When we work with Kambo we choose to interact with the Divine force directly, bypassing our minds and consequently we usually experience a deep healing.
The Traditional uses of Kambo
and how its used for more than health
Kambo is traditionally used within the tribes for many reasons, physically it is used to defeat malaria, snake bites, fevers, increase fertility and conversely for abortion. It is also used of to reduce body aches and inflammation and to heal viral and bacterial infections.
Perhaps more interestingly though it is used to remove ‘panema’, which the tribes define as dark, heavy or negative energies that manifest as bad luck, illness, depression, laziness, lack of clarity and simply feeling lost. By removing panema, the tribes believe a person is free to move forward and to remove the feeling of being powerless. In some cases this could be associated with the removal of depression and I have seen Kambo shift depression in just a few sessions.
Kambo is sometimes used prior to hunting because it lessens the human smell and thus makes the hunter ‘invisible’ to their quarry. The tribes are well aware of how Kambo increases their speed and endurance which in the jungle gives a huge advantage to a hunter who may have to run for hours in the pursuit of his prey.
Of course before they hunt other prey they must find a Kambo.
Our health improved after Kambo and we are happier and more self-confident, loving and kind. We asked forgiveness for the people we hurt, our relationships have been enhanced (family, friends, and coworkers), we are more relaxed, creative and focused in general. We quit coffee, tobacco, and junk food. We live more conscious and peaceful, in deep Gratitude with a new lifestyle. Thank you, Simon, all of us send you blessings, our deepest gratitude. <more>
This work has deeply changed the way that I perceive reality, or maybe the way reality perceives me. Since my second ceremony, Synchronicity has been off the charts in my life. Every day seems like an effortless flow. <more>
Receiving the Kambo medicine from Simon felt so safe, he was there to support me and at the same time, he gave me the space I needed to experience the medicine. I love the feeling of serenity that surrounds me after Kambo. So clear and peaceful, within it, it is much easier to choose to love. <more>
It has been almost a year since I received my Kambo from Simon and I will never forget the deep healing I received. I now have the internal tools to go into a state of what I call eternal peace and joy. <more>
I became grounded, anchored, and filled with the knowing of who I am, and my innate worth and beauty. A threshold was crossed, and with such ease and grace. I also continue to feel the medicine working on me. <more>
Thank you very much for being such an excellent facilitator of my first Kambo session. Whenever I have tried a new medicine and immediately feel safe and grounded, I know that I’m in the hands of a maestro – we were all very fortunate to have you as our guide. <more>
The Science of Kambo
The magic of Kambo peptides
Scientist Vittorio Erspamer of the University of Rome who was nominated for the Nobel prize wrote that the Kambo secretion contains a “fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications, unequaled by any other amphibian”. Erspamer went on to say that ‘Among the several dozen peptides found in kambô, up to 7% are bio-active.’ They bind with receptor sites situated in the brain, triggering chemical reactions in the human body. So far, researchers have found nine bio- active peptides that have a potent effect on the gastrointestinal muscles, gastric and pancreatic secretions, blood circulation, and on the stimulation of the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland. The Kambo peptides discovered by Erspamer trigger a variety of beneficial chemical reactions in the human body. Kambo has the ability, unlike many other natural and pharmaceutical substances, to cross the blood-brain barrier, enabling it to reach deep into the body and bring support to otherwise difficult to treat areas. Human cells open up to the beneficial properties of Kambo unlike many substances that are filtered and eliminated by the body’s highly intelligent defense system. Thus far, researchers have discovered nine peptides, some of which are bio-active – meaning that they perform specific functions in the body. These peptides perform hormone-like tasks while others provide support to vital cellular processes. Some of these peptides have a potent effect on the gastrointestinal muscles, gastric and pancreatic secretions, blood circulation, and on the stimulation of the adrenal cortex and pituitary gland. Many peptides have since been isolated from the Kambo secretion and have been synthesized. As a testament to their medicinal properties, there are over now over 70 Kambo related patents lodged. Kambo peptide research is currently being carried out with regards to:
- Blood circulation problems
- Vascular insufficiency
- Organ diseases
- Skin and eyes issues
- Fertility problems
- Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS)
- Brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
It is important to note that there is currently no peer-reviewed papers that prove the peptides in Kambo can help any of these conditions. As Kambo practitioners we have much anecdotal evidence that Kambo does help people greatly, but for the protection of Kambo it is best not to make medical claims until we have the science to back them up. If you would like to do further research on the peptides in Kambo please search for the following peptides:
- Bradykinins (phyllokinin)
- Tachykinins (phyllomedusin)
And here is a scientific article on the Peptide Dermaseptin B2
Contraindications to Kambo
Guidelines for when not to receive Kambo
Native tribes have worked safely with Kambo for generations. Some of the tribal men have taken 120 points of Kambo at one time. At least 200 men have achieved this over the recorded history of the Katukina tribe. This proves that Kambo is very safe when taken correctly.
It is only now that Kambo has been used outside of the tribal setting and by non-native people that some problems have occurred. This list is offered in the spirit of cooperation. My website and its content are copyright, but you may copy and reproduce these contraindications at will.
Please note that Kambô is not for you if you meet/have any of the following conditions:
Stroke • Heart bypass surgery • Enlarged heart • Implanted cardioverter defibrillators • Pericardial effusion • Congestive heart disease • Excess fluid in the heart sack • Heart valve replacement surgery • Organ transplant • Taking medicine for blood clots • Pregnancy • Serious mental health problem (excluding PTSD, depression and anxiety) • Epilepsy • Bipolar disorder • Within a month of chemotherapy or radiotherapy • Taking Diurectics • Taking immunosuppressants for an organ transplant • Addison’s disease • Recovering from a major surgical procedure • Person is water fasting for more than 12 hours • Person received an enema within 3 days prior • Person has consumed 5meoDMT (Bufo) in the past month • Person has consumed other strong medicines (eg. San Pedro, Ayahauaca, Mushrooms) within 24 hours of wanting to receive Kambo • Person has used Rapé or Sananga within one hour of wanting to receive Kambo • Person is taking ANY prescription drugs • Person has not reached their 18th birthday • Person has reached their 70th birthday • The person is being cajoled into doing Kambo by another person (including a family member) • The person lacks the mental capacity to make the decision to take Kambo • The person is desperate for a solution to a life threatening problem • The person shows no respect for the medicine, ie. Bucket list • The person has consumed large amounts of water prior to arriving for Kambo • Person has eaten within 8 hours of receiving Kambo. The person has not consumed 1-1.5L of water immediately prior to receiving Kambo.
This is not an exhaustive list, so please do your own research.
Other things to consider
Tribes do Kambo differently, so there is not necessarily one right way.
It is not advisable to mix Kambo with other medicines, in some tribes this includes rapé.
It is generally considered best to receive Kambo in the morning.
Some believe that taking it too close to a body of water takes away the power of the Kambo.
